Progress Report #1: A retrospective Part 1

Well, since this is the first blog in the series, I should probably give you a bit of background on why I started this business and what I’ve done so far. Bare with me!

Why? Well you see, it was after our first Christmas in our new first house (yes that’s right, we are now first time home owners)! The rose colored glasses were slowly falling off our faces and we realized that we had been overcome with this weird feeling over the last number of months: that very freeing feeling that money had somehow been in unlimited supply. With this realization, panic set in…well at least for me it did. We were no longer debt free or in what I would like to call “as comfortable of a position as I would like to be in”. With this gut twisting feeling, I sprung to action! And by action, I mean after tossing and turning in bed for hours, I picked up my phone and spent the rest of the night on Google and Youtube. For what, you wonder? (See how I’m going to narrate your part for you? I think it makes it more interactive, thanks for participating!:P)

Well, supplemental income and side hustle ideas is what! Turns out, there’s a lot of crap out there! And by crap, I mean crap. So many easy money pitches that are so blatantly full of it that you just want to reach out and slap the person on the other side of the video. Anyways, there were legit ideas too, none of which really yanked my crank, but I started making a list to explore anyway.

This went on for many nights, and just as I was about to settle for the idea that I would have to pimp myself out on Fiverr or Ken would have to become an Uber drive (yes, I slipped in that introduction, it’s just going to be easier moving forward if I can call him by name instead of “my boyfriend”), anyways, just as I was about to settle: I found the concept of POD!

It was like a revelation, like the clouds parted and the light shone through, like it was meant to be, like a sign from above….ok no it wasn’t, but it seemed like such a cool idea! I’ve always loved design, I don’t have to leave the house, and I can be my own boss! On top of it, between this and KDP (self-publishing scheme I’m about to start), I can start eventually generating a passive revenue stream and buy that yacht I’ve always wanted!

Long story short, I dove into this hard. I spent every waking minute absorbing everything I could…well every moment I wasn’t doing other things that is (oh, did I forget to mention I do have a job already…?).

Post Christmas holidays were not a vacation, it was time to build a plan…and figure out how all this works! That was the end of December. I took a week of vacation time in January too, and this was the official launch of my new business! I opened my new store, started re-learning design and off to the races we were! Fast forward a month and a half later and here we are!

On that note, I feel like I should cut this blog post here, just in case you’re getting tired of reading (after 564 words…ah hem), and you would prefer to pick this back up later. Use the arrows below to check out my next post for the summary on what I did and how well, or not well, that went!
